The beaches of Monte Conero
Beaches
There
are two types of beach resort in the Riviera. There are small resorts
lie below the limestone peak of Monte Conero, such Portonovo, Sirolo,
Numana. Then there are the bigger places with a lively atmosphere,
busy nightlife, plenty of visitors abroad such as Marcelli. As well as
pay sections, there are also free stretches of public beaches.

Beaches
FROM NORTH TO SOUTH PORTONOVO
MEZZAVALLE
BEACH (12) |
Description:
this beach is a rare paradise that the natural environment
has preserved. Only free beaches.
Getting
to the beach: From Ancona, head eastwards through the
city to the coast road, and pick up the signs for Monte Conero.
The road soon begins to rise and within a short while leaves
the city suburbs to arrive at the slopes of Monte Conero.
Mezzavalle beach is located just before Portonovo bay. You
will have to cover approximately a kilometer on foot in order
to catch up the beach.This footpath is steep and the beac
hhas not got facilities for young children.
SERVICES:
few, no umbrellas, sun beds restaurant, or toilets. Tough
access.

PORTONOVO
BEACH (11) |
Description:
pleasant beach sand rather than pebbled with serried ranks of
umbrellas and deck chairs and italian flesh! On the bay, often
crowded, there are few restaurants with a breathtaking view
balcony serving fish dishes.
Getting to the beach: reached by car from the Monte
Conero road (there are free parking areas) or by bus from
the parking zone on the top of the hill.
THIS
IS THE WINDSURFING BEACH OF THE AREA WITH THERMAL WINDS ALMOST
EVERY AFTERNOON..!
Easy
access and all facilities available. windsurfing equipment
available for hire..

"LA
VELA" BEACH (10) |
Description:
A spectacular beach with a rock, shaped like a sail ("vela"
in Italian). It's a free public beach: the last of the south
versant of the bay.
Getting to the beach: reached by car from Ancona to
Portonovo Bay. At Portonovo you have to park at Capannina
beach and walk for few minutes.

DUE
SORELLE BEACH (8) |
Description:
the most singular, attractive and secluded stretch of unique
coast: a white pebble beach with two spectacular rocks in
front. This beach remains umbrella free and has no services
that the others have - so take all tht you are likey to need
with you!
Getting
to the beach: is reached only by boat from Numana port
(see below).

SASSI
NERI BEACH (7) |
Description:
a long, black pebbled (hence the name) strand of beach; it
is one of the best in the coast - it is attached to the beach
below and arrived at by same bus - a fantastic view as you
round the corner at the top of the hill and begin the decent.
I have heard that there are nudist areas....!
Getting to the beach: reached by bus from the bus station
near the Town Hall (half an hour runs) or on foot from Republic
Park of Sirolo. Same car park as below, and a bus pickup from
there with at one euro per head is recommended!

SAN
MICHELE BEACH (6) |
Description:
This is a lovely thin strip of beach that is reportedly washing
away - so in the future will havebeen reclaimed by the sea.
In high summer it is not like this photo, but is lined with
umbrellas - costing 5 euro's each, and sun beds also cost
5 euros. It really is stunning and the water is clear - good
for snorkelling and playing in the swell that occasionlly
seems to pick up.
Getting to the beach: reached by bus from the bus station
near the Town Hall There is a car park (field) which you can
pay 6 euros per day (handy hint park along the back which
will be in shade on your return. I will put a map of Sirollo
up in the near future - if you read this before then, please
give me a shotu and I will update it.

URBANI
BEACH (5) |
Description:
With a green pine-wood as a backdrop this beach has a charming
and half moon shape strand on a bay of Sirolo. All servies
that you may require will be available.
Getting to the beach: easily reached by car and by
bus, going down one kilometer road on a pine-wood which start
in the center of Sirolo.

NUMANA
ALTA BEACH AND LA SPIAGGIOLA BEACH (4) |
Description:
enchanting small pebble size strand, offers a number of beach
facilities. I have not visted this beach and so cannot add
to this at present - please feed abck to me if you can!
Getting to the beach: easily reached by bus from Numana
square (ten minutes).

NUMANA
BASSA BEACH AND MARCELLI BEACH |
Description:The
beach is wide, golden and sunny: the ideal for those searching
for relaxing sea days. Its tranquillity, not without fun,
makes of Marcelli a researched place of vacation. the boat
for "due Sorelle" sails form here.
Getting to the beaches: easily reached by car from
the ss 16 and the Monte Conero road.

Opera makes another very good
trip out - it is second only to Verona. Lo Sferisterio is
a stunning outdoor amphitheatre. Other Opera Theatres in
Le Marche include Jesi and Ancona.

Golf Club is about an hours drive from the Farm house
and is a well renowned course near some stunning beaches -
ideal for meeting the loved ones after the big game!
